As a devoted Friends fan, I was excited to see that Pottery Barn released a collection of goodies to coincide with the series’ 25th anniversary just yesterday to e-mail subscribers. The pièce de résistance, of course, is the famed Apothecary coffee table that was featured in an episode of the same name.
For those not familiar with the episode, Rachel (played by Jennifer Aniston, and a character I could frequently identify with), who has an interest in fashion and shopping, is living with Phoebe (played by Lisa Kudrow) who is rather “hippy, dippy, trippy” and not a fan of mass produced things and *despises* Pottery Barn. Well Rachel, unable to help herself, falls in love with an apothecary table from Pottery Barn, buys it without Pheobe knowing, and when Pheobe finds it in the apartment, Rachel is quick to make up a story that she found it in a flea market and falsifies its provenance as from “the days of yore.” Well, pretty quickly, other items begin showing up in the apartment, all from “yore” and “Colonial times” and hijinks ensue.
Personally, I’m really into apothecary related items and visuals, and specifically this apothecary coffee table. I would not use it as a coffee table myself, but instead have visions of it living at the foot of our bed, where my husband could sit on it to put on his shoes. And we’d use the drawers for shoes. I’m extremely tempted to buy it, and can almost justify the price ($1,099), but I hate the idea of paying that + $239 to ship it. That is nearly $1,450 all in after tax and I don’t think I can bring myself to do it.
Other items that i think are super cute from the collection:
I’m beyond partial to the Joey Doesn’t Share Food mug, but I think it has sold out (at least for now).
Who among us didn’t want a purple door with a funky ornate gold frame around the peephole?
