Amazon Prime Day is Upon Is

Like the vast majority of Americans, I’ve been an Amazon Prime devotee since they first started offering monthly Prime subscriptions. The service pays for itself with the savings on prompt shipping charges, but as a bonus also grants you access to their streaming service (we are big fans of The Man in the High Castle).

Prime Day has historically been hit or miss, but after being very pleased with my spoils from last year (and a $10 credit to spend during Prime Day thanks to a Whole Foods promo), I am planning to partake in this year’s sale. Below are some of my favorite recent Amazon purchases as well as items I’m hoping will get discounted for Prime Day.

What I’m loving from last year – 6 quart instant pot, $59

So what am I so excited about from last year? Yep, it’s an Instant Pot. Having started the keto diet last fall, meal prep has become an essential part of our weekly routine, and the instant pot has cut down our cooking time significantly. We used to be up until 11pm or midnight waiting on our slow cooker, but now we are usually done by 7 or 8pm at the latest.

At the time that I purchased it, I snagged it for the lowest price I’d ever seen – 40% off. It looks like it is currently being offered for that price ($59), so perhaps it will be even less expensive tomorrow? I’m also a fan of their glass lids for easy refrigerator storage.

At some point, I’d like to upgrade to a programmable one (currently $127 for a 6 quart), could it potentially be priced more attractively tomorrow? Fingers crossed.

Kindle Paperwhite, $85

Another item I have and love (and pictured at the top of this post), is a Kindle Paperwhite. S picked this up for me for my birthday, and I’ve been getting a lot of use out of it with all of our recent travel (I even read in the bath)! It is already marked down to Prime Day pricing – $85

Paddywax Library Ex Libris John Steinbeck Candle (Smoked Birch), $20

Also pictured above is the John Steinbeck candle by Paddywax Library Ex Libris. This candle caught my attention at a really nice airport bookstore this month, and I had to stop myself from buying it and carrying it on the plane. I was pleased to find it on Amazon, and very pleased to find it for $20. I’m a fan of smokey smells, but it isn’t for everyone in the warmer months. This one is nicely balanced with amber, and smells absolutely lovely. I’d have thought this candle would cost at least double the price.

Keto friendly foods – oatmeal, mini snickerdoodle cookies & cheese whisps

Until about 6 months ago, I was depending on my cooking/baking skills to whip up snacks in addition to our normal meals. The above finds have been a life saver when I don’t have the extra time to bake, or when I’m in a rush in the morning. I really enjoy the oatmeal – I have tried both Strawberries and Cream as well as the Cinnamon Spice. I also really like the Snickerdoodle mini cookies from High Key foods (the chocolate chip ones are good as well, but I prefer to have a chocolate bar). Lastly, I’ve become addicted to cheese Whisps for a savory snack. My favorites are the Tomato Basil, Cheddar Bacon BBQ, and Asiago Pepper Jack (warning, these are spicy). Needless to say, I would not be sad if these were marked down tomorrow!

Illustrated Edition of Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire, $28

Is anyone else collecting the illustrated editions of Harry Potter by Jim Kay? They are stunning! After an especially long wait (2 years since the release of The Prisoner of Azkaban), I’m ready to pull the trigger on the 4th book – the Goblet of Fire tomorrow, Prime Day special or not.

Earbuds by 1More, $70

Are you in the market for earbuds? I’m tempted by AirPods, but in my experience, solid earbuds (namely Apple brand ones) do not fit in my ears and fall out. I purchased this pair by 1More just over 2 years ago, and not only are they so pretty (hello rose gold), the sound quality is very good. And hey – they are still pretty with excellent sound quality 2 years later. At $70, these are a bit pricey but are actually lower in price than what I paid ($100).

Kate Spade Gala Slip-On Loafers, $65

If there’s 2 things I’m currently loving – its mules and metallic gold (albeit, I’ve been really into gold the last few years). When I was at my peak weight, I didn’t feel comfortable dressing my body, so I went from expressing my style through clothes to shoes (and makeup). A previous boss once made some comment about my eccentric shoes (referring to a pair of glittery Miu Mius), and I’ve just kind of embraced it ever since. I bought these Kate Spade mules 2 years ago, and paid over $100 for them – and can say they make quite a statement (if that’s for you), and I find them to be really comfortable. I’m between a 6.5-7, and had ordered a 7 and 7.5 at the time (based on reviews) and kept the 7’s. Best to order 1/2 size up.

LED Light up Word Clock by Sharper Image, $27

Okay, this is probably my favorite Amazon purchase of 2019. I bought 2 – one for home, and one for my desk at work. It is a much, much, much cheaper version of the QLOCKTWO and I get a ton of compliments on it from all of the engineers I work with (in short, they become mesmerized by it when I’m trying to talk shop). I haven’t found a place for it yet at home, so it is currently living in our kitchen. I’m a fan of the copper, but it comes in black too. The LED Light Up Word Clock is a definite conversation starter and worth the $27, Prime Day discount or not.

Ring Video Doorbell Pro + Echo Dot, $279

Rumor has it, this set is going to drop by $100 to $169. Personally, I’m not into the Echo (unless its an Echo Silver), but I am into the doorbell (we love ours, even though it mostly just captures thunderstorms, bugs, and well…Amazon delivery people!), and $169 is a good price for the doorbell alone.

Amazon Prime Day will begin at Midnight (PST) on July 15th.

P.S. Techradar is keeping a running list of Amazon deals as they are dropped here.

Let me know what you pick up in the comments!
